About This Project

Working with an international and award winning architectural firm, Urban Building relocated an existing client from North Sydney across the bridge to a whole floor tenancy measuring over 1000m2 in Surry Hills. With the new space already fitted out by previous tenants, the project was broken into three stages – reconfigure of existing workstations and cabling to suit new requirements, occupation by the client, followed by the creation of a reception area, additional meeting rooms and quiet rooms.

 

Key features of this project include a striking reception area with custom joinery featuring planter boxes and removed ceiling with black soffit, dark and bold colouring around the core of the building with custom joinery to match, additional meeting rooms and breakout areas located on the perimeter of the floor, six single person ‘phonebooth’ quiet rooms offering privacy within a predominantly open plan layout, a store room converted into a wheel chair compliant toilet, featuring lighting to breakout areas, the use of vinyl planks and various carpet tiles to differentiate between work/meeting/breakout areas and numerous flat screen TVs mounted around the core and in meeting/boardrooms to convey company messages to all staff.

 

Urban Building managed all aspects of the project including private certification and statutory levies, liaising with building management, all forms of building by our in-house team and supervision of sub-contractors including electricians, plumbers, fire, air conditioning, flooring, tilers, water proofers, plasterers, painters, glaziers and graphics installers. With the majority of stage 3 works happening outside of business hours consideration was given to scheduling of works and procurement of materials, plus the movement of resources, staff and waste in and out of a high-rise building protected by 24hr security due to sensitive government organisations occupying other floors.

 

The project was completed prior to the client’s international company conference held within the new tenancy and on budget without compromises to quality.
